Metro’s taxi licensing director retiring as consultants recommend putting department in Public Works

Metro Transportation Licensing Commission Director Brian McQuistion will retire after eight years as the city considers folding the agency into its Public Works department, Mayor Karl Dean’s office announced this afternoon.

The release of a consultant’s report comes after months of controversy over the commission’s handling of taxi permit applications and its inspectors’ use of police badges and blue lights, which outraged Metro Police Chief Steve Anderson.

“This presents me with a good opportunity to retire and devote myself to my wife and family,” McQuistion said in the release.
