At the last Common Council meeting, I listened as several community members criticized Albany’s Citizen Police Review Board and offered “helpful” advice. I’m always unimpressed when people try to fix things they’ve never observed. Same thing goes for the Common Council’s Public Safety Committee, Chaired by Babs Smith with the Deputy Chair of Leah Golby appointing new member after new member to the Board without wonder why vacancies keep happening.
Once, I saw Ms. Golby attend a meeting…for about a half an hour of the 2 hour meeting. Never have I seen Babs attend a meeting of the CPRB…wouldn’t it be a good idea to review the process to fully understand what type of “board member” might be needed to offer a better system over oversight? Hmmm…well, apparently Babs and I will continue to disagree on that one.
