Let’s be clear, our current term limits law has created a broken political system in California.
Instead of developing a firm grasp on the issues in their current office, politicians instead are constantly campaigning for their next office.
Two of the most comprehensive studies on the impact of the current term limits law confirm the political merry-go-round in Sacramento and its effect on the legislature’s ability to do the people’s business.
The nonpartisan Center for Governmental Studies found that “termed out state Assembly members were more likely to switch legislative positions and move from the Assembly to the State Senate, rather than return to the private sector and provide opportunities for new citizen legislators to serve.”
