The Des Moines Register is reporting that the three Iowa Supreme Court justices who were not retained by Iowa voters in the 2010 election will be presented the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award this May at the JFK Presidential Library.

The library’s website states, “The Profile in Courage Award seeks to make Americans aware of the conscientious and courageous acts of their public servants, and to encourage elected officials to choose principles over partisanship – to do what is right, rather than what is expedient.”

It seems as if former Justices Ternus, Streit and Baker are being honored because they were victims of the retention process, not because of their ruling in Varnum v. Brien, which opened the doors to gay marriage in the state of Iowa. If the award was being granted on the court’s gay marriage decision, then Justices Wiggins, Cady, Hecht, and Appel should also be honored since they were also part in the unanimous decision.

This is just another example of liberals using the role of the victim to advance their cause. This award has nothing to do with courage. It’s about political victimhood.
