Effort to Reconvene Scott GOP Convention Fails

The attempt by some Ron Paul supporters to reconvene the Scott County GOP convention failed on Thursday after the group did not lure enough delegates for a quorum. Only 71 people showed up for the meeting, according to the Quad City Times. The effort was led by Paul backer Michael Elliott and received support from State Central Committee member, and fellow Ron Paul booster, Jeremiah Johnson.

They were upset with how the chairman of the March 10 convention handled some of the proceedings, as well as the delegate selection process. Elliott was selected as an alternate to the district convention. Republican Party of Iowa Chairman A.J. Spiker sent a letter to Scott County delegates and alternates telling them Thursday’s meeting would not be valid. Following Thursday’s failure, the Paul supporters have given up their plans to usurp the results of convention.

“Without a quorum, there’s nothing we can show the court,” Michael Elliott told the newspaper. “This leaves us at a dead end.”
